Sidney was born on 20 November 1916 in Brighton, Sussex to Jonah Waldman and Lena née Klein and had a sister Kate and a brother Edward. In 1939, Sidney’s father Jonah was billeted at Volta House, Hampstead which was a sub station of the AFS. He worked as a clerk and was a member of the Auxiliary Fire Service. Sidney was living with his mother in Hampstead and was working as a clerk.
Sidney married Cecilia Goodman in 1941 in Lambeth. Their daughter Annette was born three months after his death.
Sidney was the wireless operator/air gunner on Halifax W1036 which departed RAF Linton-on-Ouse on a night operation to Flensburg. The aircraft was hit by flak and crashed at Sehestedt, southeast of the Wittensee lake. Four crew were killed and three became prisoners of war.
