Sidney was born in 1922 in Whitechapel, London to Benjamin and Ada née Laizerowitz and had one sister Sadie and two brothers. In 1939, the family lived at 65 Geldeston Road, Hackney where Sidney’s father Benjamin worked as a gent’s tailor. Sidney enlisted at Euston in 1940.

Sidney was the navigator on Lancaster LM446 which departed RAF Dunholme Lodge on a night operation to attack the Gnome and Rhone engine plant. The aircraft crashed at Aubergenville (Seine-et-Oise) 12 km ESE of Mantes-la-Jolie killing all onboard.
