Milton was born on 9 May 1921 in Frankfurt, Germany to German born Ernst Moritz and Alice née Frohmann. Ernst became a British citizen in 1912 and returned to Germany where he worked as a banker. He married Alice who was a widow with two young girls in 1920 in Frankfurt. Ernst’s sister and brother were interned in Theresienstadt concentration camp. His sister Jeanette died after her release in 1945 but his brother Emil was murdered in 1943. Alice’s parents were both murdered in Auschwitz. Ernst, Alice and her daughters all emigrated to the USA after the end of the war.
Milton was a wireless operator/air gunner on Halifax JN905 which departed RAF Lissett on a night operation to Hanover. The aircraft was lost without trace and the crew are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.
