David was born in 1920 in Whitechapel, London to Mark and Rachel née Harris. David’s grandparents Lazarus and Deborah were born in Lithuania and became naturalised British citizens in 1910. They had ten children and one son Daniel, David’s uncle was killed aged nineteen in WW1. He is buried at The Bluff, Belgium.

David married Queenie Wecksler in 1942 and their son Daniel was born six months after David’s death.

David was a wireless operator/air gunner on Halifax HR788 which took off from RAF Snaith on a night operation to Dusseldorf. The aircraft was shot down by night fighter pilot Oberfeldwebel Reinhard Kollak of the 7./NJG 4 and crashed into the Oosterschelde, southwest of Scherpenisse, Zeeland. David’s body was never found.
